UNITED MILITANT GROUPING
of Emporiki Bank’s employees
ANNOUNCEMENT Νο. 53/30-3-2011

ALL TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF OUR UNION
SATURDAY 2/4 AT THE
CARAVEL HOTEL

LET’S CHANGE THE DIRECTION OF OUR WORKPLACE TRADE UNION MOVEMENT
LET’S CHANGE THE RULES OF THE GAME TO OUR OWN BENEFIT

The annual general assembly of the Union of Emporiki Bank Employees will convene in the most difficult political, economic and social context of the latest 30 years. The bosses’ “moto” under the conditions of a generalized crisis of capitalism, and given the Greek particularities, is “flexible work or lay-off.” The government of G. Papandreou-PASOK loyal both to the Troika (EU_ECB-IMF) and SEV and Hellenic Banks Association continues its disastrous project dismantling labour relations and abolishing elementary guarantees for workers and unemployed persons that had been gained with struggles and made up the “residual welfare state” in Greece. We have reached to the point where 2 out of 3 businesses impose individual work contracts abolishing in practice the collective labour agreements. The bankers, in their turn, neither sign nor negotiate collective agreement with OTOE.

In our workplace, i.e. Emporiki Bank, the French Management denies to negotiate any longer the issues that our union had submitted. The majority of the Administrative Board of our union (DISIE-DAKE) is absolutely responsible for the negative course but does not understand anything or does not want to understand that it does not control the game any more. Its lethal fault was its attempt to contribute to the phony dialogue for the disastrous change of the terms of the Personnel Regulation in exchange with the supposed “good will” of the CEO for including the new colleagues to the Regulation. The historical Extraordinary General Assembly of our Union on the 4th of December 2010 cancelled the plans of the Management and threw the majority (DISIE-DAKE) in crisis. The latter took cover in the union’s offices, kept all the secondments for themselves excluding EAS, ESAK and DAKE-Nea Apopsi, distributed the subsidies to the factions using their self-interest as criterions and not the principle of equality and excluded the representatives of the above factions even from the joint bank-union committees (promotions, complaints etc). They disunite in an unprecedented way our collective body in an era when the working people need more than ever a spirit of cooperation and unity. They idle in times of strike mobilizations, something they did in the case of the work stoppage that the Athens Labour Center decided for protesting the ticket price increases in the Mass Transport companies and for solidarity to the transport workers. When the same factions declare a strike, as in the hearing of the case of TEAPETE they regard it as a routine job and the result is that nobody (Press, Mass media, political parties) knows that we are on strike. This way, though, is not what the workers and the union need.

So we must change course. We must all revolt and demand the change of things in the union before it’s too late. “Don’t wait to snow in order to see a white day”. Dear colleagues, take the case in your hands. The Union is yours too. You can impose the establishment of representative and united Presidium which will fight effectively for defending the rights that we have gained. For example, we cannot go anywhere with a Presidium where the Chairman and the Secretary belong to the same faction, and what’s more without having the necessary majority!!! .The current majority is too weak to react against the coming turmoil. That’s why we must VOTE DOWN en mass the Action Report of the Administrative Board.

WE KEEP THE FLAG FLYING
 Against the reactionary policies imposed by the governments, the Memorandum and the Employers.
 Against the obstructionism of the trade union bureaucracy in GSEE, OTOE and SEET.

WE CHANGE THE CORRELATION OF FORCES
WE OPEN THE WAY FOR BETTER DAYS TO COME
WE CAN DO IT
